Class 89(2) A staple 10, particularly for securing plasterboard 11 to a support 19, has a back with a substantially flat upper-surface 24 and a cross-sectionally arched under-surface 22. The ratio of width to thickness of the cross-section lies between two and four-. to-one, and legs with sharpened ends extend from each end of the back. In other arrangements, the under-surface varies between convex and V-shape. The plane in which maximum width of the cross-section occurs lies closer to the upper-surface than to the point of greatest thickness of the under-surface.
