Abstract
792,745. Electrophonic musical instruments. VEB WERK FUR FERNMELDEWESEN. Jan. 20, 1956, No. 1962/56. Class 88 (2). The invention relates to an instrument intended to imitate the sound of a pipe organ, and the Figure shows the equipment for producing the note C and its harmonics. Generators 1-19 produce oscillations rich in harmonics, e.g. sawtooth waves; generators 1-8 are tuned to the fundamental C and its octaves, 9-14 to the corresponding fifths G and 15-19 to the thirds E, and the generators are connected to bus-bars 58-64 corresponding to the various registers (16 ft., 8 ft. and so on) through control networks 20-S7 which determine the attack and characteristic of each register. The sounds required in each register are selected by means of filter networks and formant circuits 66-70, and all the registers called for by the stops being used are added together to form a common output at 84, under the control of key switches 65 and stop switches 80-83. The relative strengths of the different registers are determined by resistances 71-76, and further mixtures may be obtained by means of tappings 76-79 in the filter networks. The generators 9-19 giving fifths and thirds are tuned in just (not tempered) intonation.
