In a process for deodorizing and sterilizing the air of rooms &c. a slow, hot and preferably rising, moistened air current is produced to which ozone is intimately mixed, and to a large extent dissolved in the water vapour, to produce hydrogen peroxide, which in turn produces nascent oxygen. As shown in Fig. 1, the apparatus used comprises a container for water, means 7 to heat the water, an ozone generating device 11, an annular container provided with openings 5 communicating with the ambient air and placed at different levels, heating means arranged within the container to create a slow rising air current, the water vapour produced by the water heated in the container and the rising air current, and the ozone converge at a point in the container in such a way as to form at the exit of the container itself, a rising current of air which is moistened by water vapour and hydrogen peroxide vapour. In another modification shown in Fig. 3, the apparatus is formed of an elongated shape envelope, open at the ends and including a centre portion 16 serving as a tank to contain water, the flow of which is controlled by a float 20 and headed by electric element 21 thermostatically controlled and two end portions 17, 18, the former containing an ozonizing member 23 and an air blower 24 and the latter having a small rim formed at the end, which holds the droplets formed during the operation and which are returned to the container 16, by flowing along the slightly inclined bottom of the portion 18. Air is forced by the blower 24 against the ozonizing members 23, takes up ozone and is deflected by a diaphragm 26, arranged in the container 16, towards the heated water in the bottom portion of the container so mixing the ozonized air with the water vapours producing a current of air rich in hydrogen peroxide vapour which is discharged at the end portion 18.
