Abstract

Heating by electricity.-In portable apparatus for disinfecting or destroying vermin by means of a jet of super-heated steam the boiler a serves as a carrier for receptacles c, d for disinfectant and fuel respectively and is fitted with electric heating means as well as a burner. The steam is passed to a superheater combined with the outlet nozzle of the apparatus. Volatile liquid or compressed gaseous fuel from the receptacle d is passed to a burner f, or the boiler may be heated by a disc-shaped electric heater e fitting within the arched base of the boiler or by a rodshaped electric heater e<1> introduced into the central flue b. The heaters e, e<1> are removed when the burner f is in use. The steam is passed to a superheater g, fitted with a nozzle m and a handle n, wherein it passes through the space surrounding an electric heater h. In a modified superheater, Fig. 3, the steam passes through a coil l<1> surrounding a heater h<1> which may be electric or may be a burner connected to the fuel reservoir d.
