Abstract
791,148. Filters. BRITISH FILTERS, Ltd. Oct. 15, 1956 [Nov. 21, 1955], No. 33227/55. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] The method of making a filter unit comprises providing a body of filter medium 1 mounted on a tubular member 2 which extends outside the body 1. This is placed in a mould and a low melting point metal is cast to enclose the body 1 and tube 2, the ends of the tube 2 extending a suitable distance outside the cast block. A fibrous envelope of resinous or synthetic plastic material, is formed about the cast block to form the casing 8. The filter unit is heated to melt the cast block and the melted metal flows out through apertures 7 in the rod 2. The filter body 1 may consist of suitably disposed layers or sheets of pervious filter medium. The casing 8 may be formed of glass fibre wound about the cast block as fibrous strip or tape impregnated with suitable resinous or synthetic plastic material and this is cured. The rod 2 which may be in two parts, is provided with inlet and outlet connections 3 and 4 and a non-return valve 5 is provided to by-pass the liquid when the filter becomes clogged. The ends of the tube 2 may be thickened and externally grooved at 9 to provide a key for the material of the casing. The metal cast block may be replaced by any suitable former or support.
