Abstract

791,063. Doors. TIPPEN & SONS, Ltd., F. June 11, 1956 [July 15, 1955]. No. 20497/55. Class 20(3) [Also in Group XXXII] A door constructed from flexible sheet material, for example glass fibres bound by an adhesive, includes inner and outer walls spaced from each other except at their peripheries where they are adhered together, one of the walls being formed with laterally-spaced depressions which extend across the outer-wall space and are adhered to the inner surface of the' other wall. In the construction shown. the door being for an invalid car, the inner wall 14 is provided with depressions 15, each of which has a hole 16 to facilitate application of an adhesive to hold the walls 14, 17 together. The wall 14 is moulded with recesses 18 to receive arms 19 of L-shaped brackets, the horizontal arms of which are connected to a guide member 26 carrying a cage for balls 28, 29. These balls run in channels formed in a guide element 33 carried by the floor 11 of the car. The wall 14 at the top is offset at 41 to form with a metal strop 44 a guide which is engaged by parallel rollers 45, 46 journalled in top and bottom plates 47. 48. These plates are centrally pivoted at 49 to a bracket 50 secured to one side of the doorway. A spring 52 acts to cause one of the rollers to engage the track 41 and the other the strip 44.
