Class 89(1) [Also in Group XXXII] A compensating- device for clamped assemblies, to maintain a constant stress during temperaturevariations &c. comprises a casing 7 partly enclosing a nut 6 on a bolt 11, and an abutment 5, a number of washers 2 being placed between members 5, 6, and at least one of the washers being laterally corrugated, as in Fig. 1. Flat washers 3 may be interposed between the corrugated washers, and the flat washers may have projections located between the valleys of the corrugated washers to limit the compression thereof. Compression of the unit as a whole is limited when a flange 6<SP>1</SP> on the nut engages the casing 7.
