An axle-box comprising an upper half-bearing 5, a lower half-bearing 6 and a rotary dipper 9 driven from the axle 14 has a housing 1 provided, in addition to a device for collecting lubricating oil and distributing it to the upper half-bearing, with a device for collecting the oil and distributing it to the lower half-bearing. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the axle-box housing has oil-guiding ribs 34, 35 at the edges of a zone 31 from which the oil splashed by the dipper 9 drains down to a feed pool 30 of the upper halfbearing. The pool directs the oil to distributing channels 39 and grooves 36 leading to draining edges 45 for lubricating the axle 14. Oil directed outside the zone 31 by the dipper 9 is collected in channels 22, 42 which lead to grooves 20, 40 inclined downwards to the lower half-bearing 6. The lower half-bearing 6 may be adjusted vertically by means which include wedges 7 and a screw 18. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the oil splashed by the dipper is distributed some by a central rib 38 on the housing 1 to the upper half-bearing and some by channel 22 or 42, depending upon the direction of rotation of the axle 14, to the lower halfbearing.
