Abstract
788,582. Aerials. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1956 [March 30, 1955], No. 5302/56. Class 40 (7). An aerial system comprises a rod 11 of material having a high permeability-permittivity product and means, such as the coil 20, located at one end of the rod to develop an electrical signal in response to the concentrated field in the rod. Use of a rod of material having a high permeability-permittivity product such as ferrite results in a much reduced wave velocity in the rod as compared with free space. As a result, the field components of a wave arriving with the direction of propagation shown are distorted and concentrated at the end 12 of the rod. The nature of this concentration is indicated for the magnetic field component 18 and it can be seen that this is concentrated in the two legs 15, 16 formed at the end 12 of the rod. As the direction of the field component is different in the two legs the pickup coil 20 is wound clockwise round one and anti-clockwise round the other, as shown, so that the voltages generated are added.
