788,064. Severing by grinding. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS MECANIQUES A. PICQUENOT ET FILS. Oct. 19, 1954 [Aug. 28, 1954; Sept. 15, 1954], No. 30077/54. Class 60. [Also in Group XXII] A cutting machine includes a working head assembly incorporating a head for receiving a rotary cutting tool and a driving motor therefor, the motor and head being mounted respectively at opposite ends of a support arm, and further includes a work locating table and an orientatable arm which is arranged to carry the working head assembly so as to permit height adjustment of the latter in relation to the work table and also pivoted movement about a longitudinal assembly axis and about an axis perpendicular thereto. The machine is intended mainly for crosscutting, mitre-cutting and straight-cutting of diversely-shaped and profiled elements made of metal, plastic &c., the tool may be a grindstone, circular disc &c. A machine comprises an arm 2 rotatably mounted at one end thereof upon a frame 1 and supporting at its free end an assembly formed by a head 3 and a motor 4. A rotary cutting tool 5 is interchangeably fitted at the lower end of a member 6, the upper end of which supports a platform 7 to which the motor 4 is fitted through the medium of a pivot 8 and an adjustable stop 9. The motor drives the head by belts. The member 6 has a circular bearing surface 10 through which extends a shaft 11 fast with a rotatable support collar 12 fitted in a bearing 13 in the arm 2. The arm 2 is adjustable in height by a screw 15. The frame 1 carries a table 17 with work-locating means 18. A manipulating handle 20 is provided. A spring 21 contained in a telescopically arranged tubing 22 is disposed between the platform 7 and the support collar 12 to bias the assembly 3, 4 to the vertical position. A modified machine, Fig. 3, comprises a vertical column 2a rotatably mountedon the supportingframe I a and along which an arm 3a can be moved vertically, e.g. by a screw 4a operated by handwheel 5a and meshing with a threaded sleeve 6a fast with the arm 3a. The latter is formed by two telescoping tubes, the inner tube 7a having a toothed rack 8a meshing with a pinion 9a. The end of the arm 3a remote from the column 2a has a rotating joint comprising relatively rotatable plates 10a, 11a, the plate 10a being fast with the tube 7a and the plate 11a supporting a working head assembly through the medium of a slideway 13a which accommodates a carriage 14a movable by means such as a rack and pinion. The carriage 14a is secured to a drum 16a receiving a working head assembly incorporating a platform 17a to which is fitted a motor 18a and a rotary tool 19a carried by a tool head on the end of a support arm 20a.
