Abstract

787,680. Mines. ELLIOT EQUIPMENT, Ltd. Sept. 13, 1956 [June 13, 1955], No. 17014/55. Class 85 A coalmine roadway or tunnel is sealed by inflating a structure to contact the walls, top and floor. The structure comprises two tubular frames 1, 2, fabric covering 3, and a peripheral strip 4 of sponge rubber. The frames which have deflation and safety valves 9, 10 are inflated with carbon dioxide supplied from a bottle 7. During inflation of the structure, guy lines 12 are fitted and slits 5 in the cover are left open to prevent airflow blowing the structure over. Persons may pass from one side to the other of the structure through the slits. A tube having a valve may pass through the structure and be used to sample gas occuring on one side of the structure.
