787,423. Screening apparatus. VRIES S. DE. May 17, 1956 [June 6, 1955], No. 15344/56. Class 117 A fruit grading machine includes stationary parallel guideways 1. 2 which support endless chains 5, 6 carrying strips 7. 8 to which are secured conveyer belts 9. 10 of rubber &c. The inner edges of the belts extend into the space between the guideways and are supported by guidefaces 12, 13 hinged at 14 to the. guideways. The guide-faces are sub-divided in the direction of their length to provide two or more successive grading compartments, one or more of which has means for adjusting the inclinations of its guide-faces and hence the gap 11 between them. For this purpose rods 16 are fixed to and extend from the guide-faces and cross each other on the vertical axis 17, and a guide 18 on an adjusting rod 19 engages the rods 16 at the crossing-over point. By vertically adjusting the rod 19 in a supporting strip 20 the guide 18 moves the rods to vary the gap 11. A screw 21 clamps the rod 19 in the required position. Graduations may be provided on the strip 20 and a pointer 23 on the rod 19 may indicate the size of the gap.
