Abstract

786,422. Boilers for liquids. HYGROTHERM ENGINEERING, Ltd. March 21, 1955 [March 22, 1954], No. 8273/54. Class 64(1) A liquid heater comprises one or more panels each consisting of a single layer of juxtaposed parallel liquid channels 7 arranged in two or more sections. The liquid flows in opposite directions in adjacent sections, and is thoroughly mixed between sections for temperature equalization, and the panels are heated mainly by radiant heat. In the form shown, horizontal U- shaped tubes line three side walls of the combustion chamber, and are connected at the front to two vertical headers 9 which have transverse partitions 10 between groups of tubes. The partitions have small holes for the escape of vapour and gases. The tubes have longitudinal fins which almost close the gaps between them, except in the lower part of the rear wall where the hot gases pass into the chamber 13 leading to the flue 14. This chamber contains sinuous tubes 18 connected in two sets to two pairs of headers, the two sets being connected in series by a pipe 21. In another form, the roof of the combustion chamber is lined by two groups of U-tubes connected at the front to a horizontal header which has transverse perforated partitions. The liquid to be heated flows first through the wall tubes, then through the roof tubes, and finally through the sinuous tubes in the rear chamber. The roof and walls may alternatively be lined with parallel tubes connected to front and rear headers.
