Abstract
786,140. Counting-apparatus. COMPAGNIE CONTINENTALE D'APPAREILS DE MESURE. Feb. 27, 1956 [March 4, 1955], No. 6057/56. Class 106 (1). A device for transmitting the indications of a measuring apparatus to a remote point comprises means for storing energy supplied by the measuring apparatus, means actuated by the measuring apparatus for releasing the stored energy periodically and means including a magnet and an armature winding actuated by the released energy thereby to generate a voltage which is transmitted to a remote receiver incorporating counting mechanism. A meter (not shown) drives through gearing 4, Fig. 1, a shaft 5 which is connected to a shaft 7 by a spiral spring 6. The shaft 7 carries a permanent magnet 9 which is located between the polepieces of an armature 11 having a winding 12 connected by lines 3 to the electromagnet 13 of a remote receiver 2. A detent 8 normally locks the shaft 7 against rotation so that as the shaft 5 rotates the spring 6 is tensioned until an arm 10 releases the detent 8 whereupon the shaft 7 is suddenly rotated and a voltage pulse is induced in the winding 12. This pulse is transmitted via the lines 3 to the electromagnet 13 which attracts its armature 14 and through a pawl and ratchet 17, 16 actuates a counter 18. In a modification, Fig. 3, the shaft 5 carries an arm 20 which engages a crankarm 21 on the shaft 7 and slowly rotates said shaft until the crank-arm 21 reaches the position (b) whereupon the armature 9 is magnetically attracted to a stable position along the axis A-A. The sudden movement of the shaft 7 may be effected by a helical spring attached to the crank-arm, Fig. 2 (not shown). In another example, Fig. 4, the meter drives through a free-wheel mechanism a disc 30 connected by a crank-pin 29 and a connecting rod 28 to a rod 26 slidable in guides 27. The rod 26 carries a permanent magnet 23 which moves between the polepieces of an armature 24 having a winding 25. A spring 32 is periodically tensioned and released to move the disc 30 ahead of its driving means so that the permanent magnet 23 induces a voltage pulse in the winding 25.
