Abstract

785,847. Photographic image-transfer elements. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Aug. 3, 1955 [Nov. 15, 1954], No. 22266/55 Class 98(2) A receiving sheet for the migratory transfer of the residual silver salts from an exposed and developed silver halide emulsion comprises a support carrying a lightinsensitive water-permeable colloid layer having dispersed therein inert particles of average diameter from 0.001 to 10 microns, the particles being coated with a silicon compound having at least one siliconhydrogen bond, said compound constituting 0.1 to 100 per cent by weight of the inert uncoated particles and the coated particles being present in an amount of 0.1 mg to 100 g per 100 mg of colloid. The light-insensitive water-permeable colloid layer may be one of gelatin, albumen zein. agar-agar, alginic acid. casein, polyvinyl alcohol, partially hydrolysed polyvinyl esters, hydrolysed ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers, polyvinyl acetals such as those from sodium o-sulphobenzaldehyde or benzaldehyde, polyglycuronic acid and carboxymethyl cellulose. The inert particles may be silica, magnesium silicate, diatomaceous silicas, sodium aluminium silicate, calcium carbonate, barium sulphate titanium dioxide and lamp or carbon black. They may be coated with mono-, di- or trimethyl or ethyl silanes, n - propyl silane, butyl silane, dimethylchloro-silane, ethyl dichlorosilane, diethyl chlorosilane, propyl dichlorosilane, di- or tri-phenyl silanes. ethyl- or methyldiphenyl silanes, methylphenyl silane, dihexyl phenyl silane, diethoxy silane, methyl chloro - ethoxy silane, phenoxy silane, or siloxanes. When such coating compounds are solid, coating may be effected by dissolving them in a solvent and mixing them with the inert particles. The coated particles may be dispersed in the aqueous colloid by means of dispersing agents. In the examples silica particles are coated with hydrolysed trichlorosilane or dispersed in gelatin or polyvinyl alcohol and coated on a paper base. A silver halide contact printing paper is exposed to an image and during or after development is brought into contact with the receiving sheet of the invention in the presence of a silver halide solvent. After transfer the sheets are separated. Any stain in the transferred image is eliminated by treatment in an aqueous solution of hypo, sodium sulphite, borax, acetic acid and potassium alum. Supports specified for the image-receptive layers include cellulose derivatives, nylon, polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, polystyrene, polymethylene terephthalate, polyethylene terephthalate, aluminium, paper and cardboard. Specifications 592,676 and 673,3.08 are referred to.
