Abstract
785,842. Overhead current systems for electric traction. JACQUEMOND, J. Feb. 8, 1955 [Feb. 13, 1954], No. 3676/55. Class 104 (3). A direct or alternating current three-wire overhead supply system for trolley vehicles has the third conductor spaced above the two power conductors which are spaced apart in the same horizontal plane. The system has three overhead conductor wires 5, 7 and 8 supported from a catenary 1 through hangers 6, 6<SP>1</SP> attached to members 11 which directly carry the third conductor 5 and support the power conductors 7, 8 through an insulating bar 13 and respective insulators 14, 15, the central and neutral third conductor wire 5 being connected directly to earth through the member 11, hanger wires 6, 61, catenary 1, bracket 2 and either through the post 3 or an earthing wire. Swinging of the insulator bar 13 is prevented by a stay 10 extending from the post 3 to an extension 13<SP>1</SP> of the bar 13. The power is collected by a single collector head 19 which is mounted by a ball and socket joint 20 on the end of a collector arm 22. The shoe 25 engaging the neutral wire 5 is guided therealong by check plates 26. The power wires 7 and 8 are engaged by shoes 31, 32 mounted on arms 29, 30 resiliently mounted at 35 on spigots 34 attached to insulating plates 28 secured one on each side of the head 19. The shoes 31, 32 are connected by wires 38, 39 to terminal blocks 40, 41, mounted on an insulating sleeve 23 on the pole 22, and are connected to the trolley vehicle equipment by cables 42, 43. The neutral wire 44 of the trolley vehicle equipment is earthed to the overhead wire 5 through the pole 22. The shoes 31, 32 are held in contact with the wires 7, 8 by springs 36 the upper movement being limited by stops 37. The ball and socket joint 20 is arranged at the centre of pressure of the shoes 25, 31 and 32 At crossings, Figs. 5 and 6, the neutral wires 5, 5<SP>1</SP> support a plate 45 formed with guiding cheeks 47 and upwardly inclined ends 48 so that on approaching collector head 19 on reaching positions B, C will be depressed by the cheeks 27, Figs. 3 and 4, engaging the underside of plate 45 between the guides 47 and so move the shoe 25 out of engagement with the wire 5, the earth connection, however, being maintained by the cheeks 27, plate 45 and wire 5. At the same time the shoes 31, 32 are disengaged from the wires 7, 8. A similar but reverse movement is effected at the outgoing end of the plate 45 to allow the shoe 25 to move into contact with wire 5. The line wires 7, 8 are supported by the plate 45 above the crossing at 51, 52, 51<SP>1</SP> and 52<SP>1</SP> and pass through sheathing 53. At the entrance and exit ends of the plate 45 the wires 7 and 8 are insulated by insulators 50.
