Abstract
785,564. Shovelling machines. MOSLEY, G. W. July 30, 1956 [July 29, 1955], No. 22042/55. Class 68(1) In a shovelling machine the means controlling the movement of a boom A about a pivot pin 4 mounted in a structure B on the chassis of the machine is such as to permit of the boom A swinging through a small angle in a vertical plane during the digging stroke to enable the shovel C to dig along a flat plane. In a preferred embodiment the means comprises a ram E connected to the boom A by a lost motion connection 5, 6, 7. In another embodiment the means is a ram in which the pressure on the side of the piston of said ram remote from the boom is released during the digging stroke. The shovel C is supported from the boom A by a parallel linkage D actuated by a ram F acting on a linkage 42, 44. The angle of the digging edge 28 of the shovel C to the horizontal can be adjusted by a ram G acting on members 16, 17, 18 to which link 21 of the linkage D is pivotally connected and which is rotatably mounted about the pivot pin 13 of the linkage D. A discharge plate 33, 34, 35 is pivotally mounted on the pin 15 of the linkage D and movement of said plate 33 relative to the shovel is controlled by a link 36 or a ram connected between the plate and the boom.
