Abstract
784,213. Focusing devices. BERG, J. VON. Nov. 16, 1953, No. 31781/53. Classes 97(1) and 98(1) A device for sharp focusing in photographic apparatus comprises deflecting means extending into and transversely of the path of a pencil of light rays and effective to divide the rays into at least two parts at different angles to the optical axis, and a testing object formed as an opaque plate with a transparent portion in the path of the deflected rays, so that upon accurate focusing of the lens of the photographic apparatus the partial images of the testing object are united to form a single image. As shown the testing object may be an opaque plate 1 with a transparent rectangular aperture 2 or a transparent foil made opaque except for a rectangular area and having opaque stripes therein parallel to the longitudinal direction of said area while the deflecting means are wedge prisms 6, 7, the separate slit images being projected by the lens 3 on to a plane e<SP>1</SP>. A light tunnel is also provided. The device is applicable to projection printing apparatus and to cameras having focusing screens, including reflex and twin lens cameras, the two slit images being projected on to the subject to be photographed.
