783,602. Measuring-instruments. FRIEDRICHS, G.. June 30, 1953, No. 18103/53. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXVII] An electric motor, measuring instrument, &c. 3 is protected against connection to an unsuitable supply by a relay 6 connected to the supply terminals in series with a circuit, which includes at least two devices in parallel, and in normal circumstances does not pass enough current to operate the relay. The devices may be such as to protect against excessive voltage and reverse polarity, or against excessive voltage and connection to an A.C. supply, or against reversed polarity and connection to an A.C. supply. As shown, protection against excessive voltage is given by a neon tube 15 which operates rapidly in response to a considerable overload and a pair of rectifiers 15a which can be designed to operate on a slight overload but takes longer to become effective. Protection against connection to an A.C. supply is given by capacitor 15b. In every case the apparatus is disconnected at contacts 4 until these have been re-set manually.
