Abstract
782,967. Shearing. PETIG, H. Dec. 6, 1955, No. 34908/55. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVIII] A fluid-operated wire cutter is supplied with fluid to its actuating cylinder 1, Fig. 1, by a hand pump 5 having two pistons 11, 12 sliding within one another and so arranged that only the smaller piston 11 is actuated when the pressure on the cutter blade 4 builds up. The pump 5 has an inlet valve 30 from a chamber 28 and an outlet valve 22 through which fluid passes via a channel 21 to the cylinder 1. The smaller piston 11 is coupled directly to the pump lever 6 through a link 8 and a slide 9 and for quick pumping at low pressure the lever 6 is moved through a full stroke so that the slide 9 engages the larger piston 12 and moves it against the pressure of its return spring 17. On build-up of pressure the lever 6 is moved through a limited stroke to actuate only the piston 11. A connection 48 is provided on the pump body 5 for actuation from an external supply. The fixed cutter 46 is laterally slotted to accommodate the work and is adjustable by threaded rods 47 in a holder 38 which is pivoted about a pin 32 for insertion of the work. During cutting the holder 38 is locked in position by an arm 39 which engages projections 41 on the cylinder 1. A spring-loaded plunger 43 supports the work against tilting during cutting and ejects the severed work. The pin 32 carries wheels 33 on which the cutter is moved by means of a handle 34.
