A tool for securing the wire end of a wireended electronic component 10 into a slotted connecting tag 3, comprises opposed jaws 11 biased together to initially support the wire end and adapted under pressure applied by the mouth 16 of the tag to open and allow the wire to drop into the slot 15, stops 14 limiting the opening movement of the jaws whereby continued pressure of the tag closes the mouth 16 to secure the wire end therein. The jaws 11 are pivoted at their lower ends and are biased together by gravity. The tags are mounted along opposite sides of a rectangular card 2 for receiving a number of components 17, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), the tags being connected by a printed circuit. The cards are mounted on a table 1 which moves in steps beneath two sets of jaws 11 spaced to support each wire end of the components 10. The latter are fed by gravity down a magazine 9. The table is raised by a rotating cam 7 for engaging the tabs with the jaws 11 and is lowered by springs. A number of sets of tools and magazines may be used to secure several components to a card simultaneously. The tags are subsequently dipped into a solder bath for soldering the wire ends thereto.
