Abstract
782,910. Electronic counting apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BEESLEY, J. H. Oct. 27, 1955 [Nov. 3, 1954], No. 31835/54. Class 106 (1). [Also in Group XL (c)] The Figure shows a chain of gas tubes 22, 23, 24 connected in a closed ring with an interstage coupling between them comprising a coincidence gate of the type described in connection with Fig. 1 (not shown) (see Group XL (c)), the firing of any one gas tube extinguishing the others by the drop across the common anode resistor 38. Thus if gas tube 23 is fired the rise in voltage at its cathode cuts off rectifier 54 so that the voltage at the junction of resistor 41 and capacitor 44 rises to a sufficient extent so that tube 24 is fired. In the interstage coupling between tubes 22 and 23, however, the capacitor 43 is shunted by two parallel paths so that for tube 23 to be fired it is necessary not only that tube 22 should have fired but that a positive pulse should be applied to terminal 53 simultaneously. Terminal 53 may be connected to the cathode of a particular tube in a counting chain such as that described in Specification 734,875, [Group XL (c)], thus only when that particular tube of the chain is fired will the terminal 53 have a positive pulse applied to it so that when tube 22 also fires tube 23 will be triggered.
