Abstract
782,153. Cleaning metal. CHEMISCHE FABRIK BUDENHEIM AKT.-GES. Nov. 11, 1953 [Nov. 12, 1952], No. 31236/53. Class 82(2). Scale or rust is removed from elongated metal such as wire or strip by passing it over a system of rollers along a sinuous path in which Á does not exceed 45 per cent, where:- cc = angle of contact of the wire &c. with each roller, expressed in degrees d thickness of the wire &c. expressed in mm. r = radius of curvature of the path in mm. The rollers may be disposed in groups in a housing divided longitudinally of the wire travel into two parts a, b hinged at c so that it may be opened for insertion or removal of the wire. Rollers e and f are mounted in pairs with the axes of each pair in the same transverse planes, and rollers g and h set at right-angles to these are staggered along the housing and form the sinuous path for the wire. The rollers f, g and h are mounted in bearings at one end only, to allow separation of parts a and b of the housing; weights m may be added to the top of the housing if desired. Fig. 4 shows rollers o, p mounted in a frame n on a movable platform v, these rollers being in the form of double cones with a central groove for the wire, the lower rollersp being spring loaded. The wire subsequently passes through a unit t containing sharp-edged clearing material. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 748,196.
