Abstract

782,112. Door-operating apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 18, 1955 [March 24, 1954], No. 8628/54 Drawings to Specification. Class 65(1) An air-lock door in a mine gallery provided with a railway track is prevented from closing across the track by an electric circuit which includes a normally insulated section of the track, running through the doorway and which is completed by a vehicle on the track. The door swings upwardly to the open position and is so arranged that when free it will close or open according to its position in relation to an intermediate position in which it is just not clear of a vehicle, so that it cannot fall on to a vehicle which has entered beneath it; the door is opened and closed by separate electro-hydraulic devices such as that described in Specification 363,137. The circuits described involve two additional insulated rail sections in addition to that running through the door (five in all): Entry of a vehicle on to either inner section of track causes energization of a dooropening relay, provided that an interlock switch is closed by an adjacent door being in the closed position, the circuit being maintained by a contact operated by the door; entry into the section running through the door then causes a closing circuit to be prepared while still keeping the door-opening circuit closed, but opens a contact in the circuit of the closing motor so that the latter cannot be energized accidentally until this section of track becomes unoccupied, its circuit normally being completed only as a result of subsequent occupation of one of the outer sections of track. Push button switches are provided for opening and closing the doors when required. Colour-light signals indicating the position of the door are controlled by switches actuated by the door and by the occupation of the section running through the door. Specification 756,887 also is referred to.
