Abstract

Mono- or di-aminoanthraquinones are brominated with bromine in presence of nitrobenzene at 7-12 DEG C. or 75 DEG -150 DEG C. In examples 1-aminoanthraquinone is brominated, dissolved in dry nitrobenzene at 7-12 DEG C. and at 100-125 DEG C. to give 1-amino-2-bromoanthraquinone; 1:5 diaminoanthraquinone gives 1:5-diamino-2:6-dibromoanthraquinon similarly. 1:8 and 1:4 diaminoanthraquinones are also specified as starting materials. The products in nitrobenzene solution may be used for further reactions. They dye cellulose acetate.
