Abstract
A composition useful for laminates and moulding powders comprises an organo-polysiloxane resin having from 1 to 1.6 organic groups per Si atom, and from 0.01 to 0.2 per cent (by weight of the resin) of lead 2-ethylhexoate and from 0.2 to 0.8 per cent of BunSn(2-ethylhexoate)4-n, where n is 1, 2 or 3 and Bu is a butyl group. The groups specified are methyl, octadecyl, vinyl, allyl, cyclohexyl, cyclohexenyl, phenyl, tolyl, xenyl, chlorophenyl, bromoxenyl and hexafluoroxylyl. Fillers, e.g. diatomaceous earth, ferric oxide, titania, fume silica, clay and asbestos and glass fibres or cloth may be included in the composition. In examples: (1, 4) glass cloth was impregnated with a toluene solution of a methyl phenyl siloxane copolymeric resin containing the curing catalyst mixture, cured at 100 DEG C. until tack free, stacked to form a laminate, and then cured under pressure at 175 DEG C. and, after removal from the press, further cured at 250 DEG C.; (2) the resin composition of (1) was mixed with diatomaceous earth, ferric oxide and pieces of glass cloth, pre-cured and then moulded; (3, 5) a copolymer of either dimethyl, monomethyl and monophenyl siloxanes or monoethyl, monomethyl, monophenyl and monotrifluoromethylphenyl siloxanes containing the catalyst was mixed with glass roving or short length glass fibres, diatomaceous earth, ferric oxide, calcium stearate and Pb3O4 and moulded.
