Abstract

779,754. Pitot-tube apparatus. AVIMO, Ltd. Nov. 3, 1955, No. 31431/55. Class 69 (1). A Pitot tube opens into a tubular chamber which is heated and in which are baffles to protect the Pitot tube from ice particles. In the form shown, the dynamic take-off tube 10 is enclosed by a chamber 2 which is heated electrically as at 20 and has baffles 22 forward of the dynamic take-off tube. The baffles are of segmental form spaced along and perpendicular to the axis of the chamber, have their straight edges normally horizontal and project alternately from the top and bottom of the chamber. The metal baffles are placed in heatconducting relation with the heated metal wall with the one nearer the dynamic take-off tube extending upward and having, in front of it, one or more drainage holes 23. The chamber may be single or double walled. An adaptor 24 with a split collet 26 and tapered nut 25 may be fitted to allow of the device being attached to fixings designed for differently shaped apparatus.
