Class 129 [Also in Group XI] An electrically heated coffee or tea percolator comprises a steam boiler 1 and a water reservoir 2 connected by two ducts. 4, 5 leading through a fitting plate 3, a third duct 6 connecting duct 5 to a filter attachment on plate 3, and a valve plate 17 slidably mounted within the reservoir 2 on a bar 21 extending upwardly from plate 3, the plate 17 being biased by spring 22 away from the position where it closes ducts 4 and 5 and opens duct 6 and moved to such position by a manually operated lever device connected to the upper end of a tubular member 24 mounted on plate 17 and enclosing bar 21. Duct 5 extends nearly to the bottom of boiler 1 and duct 4 terminates just below the top. Duct 6 has bores 8 leading into a space 7 encircled by a connection 13 carrying parts of a bayonet joint whose complementary parts are on a filter fitting 14 having a coffee inset and an outlet 15. The lever device shown in Fig. 1 comprises a lever 26 pivoted at one end to a fixed rod 27, pivoted between its ends to tube 24 and engaged at its other end by a cam 30 secured to a hand lever 32. The stem 44 of a valve plate 11 spring pressed against a seating in duct 6 extends into duct 5. When lever 32 is pressed down it locks in position, packings 19, 18 on plate 17 close ducts 4 and 5 and a rod 42 extending from plate 17 into duct 5 engages stem 44 to lift plate 11 off seating 12. In operation, water is poured into reservoir 2 and hence through ducts 4 and 5 to boiler 1 and coffee or tea is placed in fitting 14. Heater 23 for boiler 1 is switched on and plate 17 is pressed down to the closed position by handle 32 so that steam generated in boiler 1 forces water out through ducts 5, 6 to the filter fitting 14 which delivers the coffee to a container beneath outlet 15. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), lever 26 is replaced by a slide which is pivoted: to a link pivoted to plate 3 and has a cam edge to engage a transverse in on top of tube 24.
