Abstract

Benzene hexachloride mixtures containing above about 80 per cent of the gamma isomer are de-odorized by adding to an alcoholic solution of the composition at a temperature above about 50 DEG C. an amount of water equal to about 5-50 per cent on the weight of alcohol in the solution, and gradually cooling, preferably to below 35 DEG C. Examples are given of the addition of various quantities of water to methanol solutions of benzene hexachlorides containing various proportions of gamma isomer, in various conditions. Other alcoholic solvents specified include ethanol and other monohydroxy compounds, and polyhydroxy compounds such as glycerol, ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol.
