Abstract

779,012. Radio receiving systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and FAIRBAIRN. E. P. Feb. 17, 1955 [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 5006/54. Class 40(5) A radio receiving station comprises two receivers X, Y with muting relay contacts 5, 6 opened by noise derived voltages in the absence of received signals but closed by received signals so as to energize relays X/6 and Y/7 and close contact switches X2, X3, Y2, Y3 in feed lines from the receivers to a common output L1, L2. The relays X/6 and Y/7 also close contacts X4, Y4 so that a line ST is earthed to call the operator at the distant exchange to which the lines L1, L2 are connected. A relay B is also energized but, in the event of failure of either one of the receivers X, Y the contacts X1, Y1 are in different positions and the slow to release relay B is released to close contact B1, whereupon either relay XA/6 or YA/6 is operated corresponding to which receiver is defective and a lamp 11 or 12 is lit and an alarm bell sounded at a control unit. The relays XA/6 or YA/6 become locked over a circuit having a reset key 9 and only on the defective receiver being repaired and the reset key temporarily operated is the control system again operative. In operation a defective receiver X or Y results in the muting relays releasing to close contacts 5 or 6 (the same position as when a signal is received by a normally working receiver) but the action of relays XA/6 or YA/6 opens contacts XA6 or YA6 to deenergize relay X or Y and open contacts X2, X3 or Y2, Y3.
