Abstract
672,931. Valve circuits; radio signalling. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and NETTLESHIP, T. G. P. May 3, 1950 [June 15, 1949], No. 15963/49. Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi). A control apparatus for a pair of valve devices and a pair of power units therefor comprises manually operated switches whereby either valve device may be brought into service with either power unit and automatic means for changing over to the spare valve device or power unit on the occurrence of a fault. The circuit shown is associated with two receiver-amplifiers (A and B, not shown), and two power units (A and B, not shown) of a radio relay link. To bring the A units into operation non-locking keys ARK and APK are depressed to ensure that relays R and P are released, and switch SK is then operated. This operates relay S, the contacts of which operate relays ACH and BCH respectively, switching on the filaments of the amplifiers. When the filaments have warmed up relays ACD and BCD operate. Contact ACD1 operates relay AH which connects the full H.T. to amplifier A and contact BCD2 operates relay BL which connects a low H.T. to amplifier B to prevent the valves from deteriorating. Contact ACD1 also operates relay AW which connects the input and output lines to amplifier A. To change over to amplifier B switch BRK is momentarily operated, operating a main controlling relay R which locks in. Contact R2 moves the input and output lines to amplifier B by operating relay BW and releasing relay AW. Contact R3 in changing over does not alter the condition of the low power switching relays AL and BL since delay contact ACD2 has already operated but contacts R4 and R5 release relay S and operate relay C causing power unit A to be connected to amplifier B and vice versa, by means of contacts, not shown. A similar change-over would have occurred if a fault had developed in amplifier A for this would have caused the fault relay ALF to operate and its contact ALF1 to operate relay R as before. Contact ALF2, however, releases relay ACH and thus switches off the filaments of amplifier A. A further contact could be provided to operate an alarm. The S and C contacts ensure that the correct power unit is switched off even though the A and B units may be cross-connected. The changeover of power units on the occurrence of a fault or manually is effected by fault relays APF and BPF or switch BPK and by relay P operating in a similar manner to relay R. It is stated that the change-over of input and output lines of the amplifier alternatively could be effected by contacts or relays S and C.
