Abstract
777,850. Magnetic storage devices. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Aug. 20, 1954 [Aug. 25, 1953], No. 24273/54. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXIX] A bistable magnetic device comprises two similar series connected coils 2, 3 wound in opposite senses on a single core 1 of magnetic material with a rectangular hysteresis loop. The core is shown eight times in Fig. 3. The core is triggered from one remanent state to the opposite remanent state by a positive pulse in the grid of tube 10 in the anode circuit of which the coils are connected. The speed of operation is increased by using transistors in regenerative circuits. Eight coils 2 to 9, Fig. 3, are wound on the single core, coils 4 and 6 being connected in opposite senses to the bases of transistors 12, 13. If coil 2 is the operative coil, coil 4 responds by making the base of transistor 12 negative. The increase of current passed by the transistor through coil 5 aids coil 2 and provides positive feedback, making the transistor base more negative. Transistor 13 and coil 7 operate in the same way if coil 3 is operative. In a modification, the two oppositely wound coils 22, 23 are included in the base circuit of transistors 20, 21, Fig. 4, and are coupled to the anode of tube 17 by condensers.
