776,561. Switchgear structures. SOUTH WALES SWITCHGEAR, Ltd., NICHOLAS, A. J., and BUTTREY, R. N. Sept. 22, 1955 [Oct. 6, 1954], No. 28835/54. Class 38(5) In a high voltage, enclosed, air insulated switchgear unit having two sets of conductors 5. 11 housed in respective separately enclosed chambers 4, 9, each chamber is separately vented to atmosphere in such a manner as substantially to preclude the communication of gases from one chamber to the other. The chambers may be separated by a common dividing wall 15 extending upwardly through an aperture 16 in the roof 17 of the unit, the dividing wall supporting a metal sheeting 18 spaced from the roof so as to define oppositely directed openings 20 which may have gauze screens 21. In the arrangement shown, an oil switch 3 interconnects bus-bars 5 in the chamber 4 with feeder conductors 11 in the chamber 9, though the latter conductors could be replaced by a further set of bus-bars. The switch 3 may be lowered and raised by a wire or like rope lifting means including a winch 22 adapted to be driven selectively by an electric motor 23 or manually by a handle 24. A voltage transformer 27 may be lowered and raised by a manually operated winch 29. Specification 728,156 is referred to.
