Abstract

775,507. Gear pumps. HOBBS TRANSMISSION, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1955 [Jan. 14, 1955], No. 1187/55. Class 110 (2). A rotary pump for a variable ratio power transmission apparatus is provided with a suction pipe 13 having a closed end and a series of ports 16, the sum of the cross-sectional areas of which is less than the cross-sectional area of the pipe and such that a minimum pressure drop of at least one pound per square inch exists across the ports. According to the Provisional Specification, the ports may be provided with manual or automatic variable-orifice control means.
