Abstract

775,233. Pipe joints. PHOENIX-RHEINROHR AKT.-GES., [formerly RHEINSCHE ROHRENWERKE AKT.-GES. VEREINIGTE HUTTEN-UND ROHRENWERKE] May 16, 1955 [Aug. 10, 1954], No. 14128/55. Class 99(1) A pipe 1 of a non- weldable plastic material e.g. polyester resins, ethoxyline resins or phenoplasts, is provided at its end with a flange or collar 2 of a weldable plastic e.g. polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, acrylates or polyethylene, whereby individual pipes can be connected to one another by welding. The end faces of the flanges 2 are preferably bevelled to provide a V-seam weld and the flanges may be welded together by butt-welding under pressure, by high-frequency welding or by using plastic wire. The flanges 2 may be fixed to the pipes 1 by adhesives, screwthreading, press-fitting or by moulding. Where the pipe 1 is produced by a centrifugal casting method, a moulding of the collar of weldable plastic is arranged in a recess in the centrifugal casting mould and the non-weldable resin is introduced into the mould and cast to form the pipe, whereby the collar becomes moulded to the pipe. The pipe 1 may be reinforced by glass or other inserts. In a modification, Fig. 2, the ends of the pipe are. tapered to reduce the amount by which the flange projects above the pipe.
