Abstract
A homopolymer of trifluoro-chlorethylene or a copolymer therof containing up to 50 per cent by weight of another copolymerizable compound containing fluorine, is dispersed in a medium comprising a compound of the terpene or camphor series. The copolymerizable monomer may be vinyl or vinylidene fluoride, tetrafluoracrylonitrile or vinyl sulphofluoride. The compound of the terpene or camphor series may be limonene, a -phellandrene, b -phellandrene, a -, b - or g -terpinene, sylvestrene, a - or b -pinene, sabinene, camphene, bisabolene, cadinene, a -santalene, camphorene, 1:4- or 1:8-terpine, a -terpineol, terpinenol-1, pinol hydrate, borneol, para-menthone-3, piperitone, pulegone, isopulegone, carvone, dihydro-carbone, tetrahydrocarbone, camphor, fenchone, thujone, verbenone, thymol, carvacrol, para-allyl anisole, anethole, safrol, isosafrol, menthyl, terpinyl or bornyl acetate, propionate or butyrate, cineol or pinol, or mixtures thereof may be used. Other organic liquids may be present such as benzine, benzene, toluene, styrene, ethylbenzene, solvent naphtha, tetrahydro- or decahydro-naphthalene, cyclohexane, ethyl, propyl, butyl or amyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, di-n-butyl or di-isoamyl ether, anisole, phenetole, ethyl, propyl or butyl acetate, ethyl propionate, butyl butyrate, methyl or ethyl benzoate, cyclohexanone, cyclopentanone, acetophenone, carbon tetrachloride, trichlorethylene, tetrachlorethylene and 1,2,3-trichloropropane. The dispersions may be used for coating metals.
