774,901. Kettles &c. EVERTON, Ltd., E. T., and MILLS, R. C. Feb. 3, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4225/54. Class 66. A kettle or other utensil has a wall, e.g. the lid 13, provided with a whistle aperture 16 above the normal liquid level, and a cup-shaped enclosure member 17 disposed internally of the vessel over the whistle aperture 16, the enclosure member having an opening 18, communicating with a steam space in the vessel, shaped to constrain steam entering the enclosure member 17 to impinge obliquely onto a part of the peripheral margin 21 of the whistle aperture. The apertures 16 are disposed in a flat portion 15 of the lid 13. A raised, cowl 20 serves to prevent steam escaping through the whistle apertures from impinging on the user's hand.
