An electric hot-plate control circuit comprises heater elements R1, R2, R3, and a double-pole cam-operated switch having contacts a-d co-operating with contacts associated with element terminals 1-4. Sparking at the contacts c and e may, if the switch is operated rapidly, cause short-circuiting. To prevent this, the circuit is made and broken at those of the contacts, a, b, d, which are connected in circuit with the contacts c or e at any time. The cams are thus arranged so that contacts a, b, d are opened before the contacts c, e, and are closed after them.
