Abstract
773,593. Thermally-actuated valves. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. Feb. 18, 1955 [Feb. 24, 1954], No. 5475/54. Class 135. A gas supply valve is provided with latching means to lock a rotary plug cock 1 in its closed or open position and a common manual member 16 for turning the cock between these positions but capable of disengagement in the fullyopened position of the latching means for independent operation to vary the temperature setting of a thermal statically controlled gas valve 5. A slotted arm 24 attached to the plug cock is locked in its closed position by engaging between a lug and a boss on a locking plate 25. On depressing the member 16 against a spring 28 the plate 25 is moved downwards and a pin 23 engages in the arm slot 24 so that the rotation of the member 16 turns the cock to its open position whereupon release of the member 16 allows the plate to lock the arm against another lug and at the same time lifts the pin out of the slot. Further rotation of the member 16 engages the bent spindle 14 and rotates the screw 15 so that the thermostatic valve seat 6, sealed to the casing by bellows 30, moves up under the spring 29. Temperature variation of the bulb 9 moves the bellows 7 to vary the position of the valve 5 with respect to its seat 6, an overload spring 36 being provided between the bellows and the valve. To compensate for local temperature variations a bi-metal disc may form the connection between the bellows 7 and the valve stem 33. A pin on member 16 engages axially displaced connected slots 18 in the casing spigot 17 to limit rotation of the member 16. The spindle 13 is initially set by a screw 34 and resilient bush 35.
