Abstract

772,251. Harvesting machines. FERGUSON, Inc., H. Jan. 26, 1954 [Jan. 26, 1953], No. 2276/54. Class 6(3). [Also in Group XXX] A forage harvester comprises two endless belts 40, 41 which collect material from a cutter bar 20 and feed it through a narrow opening to a rotary chopper, the belt 41 being shorter than the belt 40 and provided with a transverse screw conveyer 42 which feeds the material from the belt 41 to the belt 40 so that it may enter the rotary chopper. The cutter bar is mounted on an adjustable auxiliary frame 21 and a reel 22 is provided. The machine has a frame including a longitudinal bar 10 and a transverse member 11 provided with a wheel 12 and is attached to the tractor by means of extensions 13, 14. The conveyers are driven from the tractor power take off shaft which also drives the reel 22, cutters 20 and the rotary chopper. The belts 40, 41 are supported at the front end on rolls 45, 46 mounted on a common shaft 47. The belt 40 is provided with an upper roll 49 which is driven through gearing from the tractor power shaft. The screw conveyer 42 is driven from an upper roll 50 of the belt 41 by chain and sprocket gearing 54.
