[Also in Group XXIII] An abrasive tool, e.g. dental point or disc, grinding wheel, engineering jib or nail file is made by coating a metal base, e.g. of steel, having the desired shape of the tool, with a brazing coating of silver solder or copper over the operative area, heating to a temperature sufficient to maintain the coating in molten condition, and pouring powdered tungsten carbide particles on the molten coating; the particles are previously thinly coppered over the entire surface of each particle by treatment with a copper salt solution, e.g. by immersion for 2-3 minutes in copper sulphate solution followed by drying.
