[Also in Groups X and XXXV] In a motor vehicle having a housing 9 accommodating instruments 10, the steering wheel 14, a gear shift lever 11, a hand brake 13, an accelerator pedal 12 and a hot air nozzle 15 and displacable transversely of the vehicle in front of seats in the front of the vehicle, the housing can be secured in different positions, provision being made for maintaining or establishing connections to the instruments and controls in each position. As shown in Fig. 1 the housing is adjustably mounted on a front wall 3 of the passenger whereby the driver can be seated at the right or left hand side or in the middle of the vehicle front seat 7. At its lower end the housing 9 carries projections 19, 20 engageable with recesses 22 in the vehicle floor 1 and at its top end the housing 9 is secured to a rearward projection 5 of the wall 3 by a screw 25 operated by a member 24 and engaging a nut 27 secured to the wall 3, the housing having a guide portion 18 engaging a transverse portion 17 of the wall. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) the housing is provided with two screws at its upper end and a single projection at its lower end. In a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the housing carries at its upper end a rotatable pinion engaged with a transverse rack secured to the front wall, a roller at the lower end of the housing engaging a transverse groove in the vehicle floor. The steering wheel and gear shift controls are transmitted electrically, and the pedal and hand brake controls are transmitted hydraulically, the instruments being motivated either hydraulically or electrically. The controls are effected through flexible lines leading to a plug 32 which can be plugged in a socket 33 on the wall 3. In the second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), a single flexible tube passes through a central opening in the front wall and is of sufficient length to accommodate the extreme side positions of the housing. The steering control may alternatively be effected hydraulically, or mechanically by means of a Bowden cable or by means of a conventional steering gear having a suitable plug coupling on the front wall.
