Abstract

771,597. Gas turbine plant. HUGHES & CO., Ltd., F. A. March 17, 1955 [Feb. 2, 1954; Jan. 13, 1955], Nos. 3064/54 and 1094/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 110 (3). [Also in Group XII] Metal is introduced into the gas stream of a gas turbine so as to be oxidized while in said stream to prevent corrosion and engine fouling. The metal may be magnesium, magnesium base alloy, aluminium, aluminium base alloy, zinc or zinc base alloy and is automatically introduced in the form of ribbon, rod or wire and may be extruded in a plastic state. The metal can be introduced at a position such as to by-pass the combustion chamber or other part of the apparatus. In an embodiment the metal is introduced into the combustion chamber adjacent its outlet (see Fig. not shown). The Provisional Specifications also describe the metal being introduced into the air flow to the combustion chambers and the use of carbon dioxide or nitrogen to delay oxidation when the metal is in a powdered form. Specifications 697,619, [Group XII], 731,242 and 743,472, [Group XII], are referred to.
