770,738. Linear dimension gauges; indicating- apparatus. KUSTUSCH, E. June 9, 1955 [June 9, 1954], No. 16574/55. Classes 106 (2) and 106 (4). [Also in Group XXIV] A depth gauge of the flush pin type comprises a cylindrical casing 10 open at the top and having an axial aperture 11 in the bottom, a sliding vertical member 15 disposed in the aperture and terminating at the top with a horizontal platform 16, a thick-walled cylindrical bushing 21 fixed axially into the casing 10 from above, the wall of the bushing 21 being defined at the bottom by an annular face 29 slanting upwardly towards the axis of the bushing. A pin 37 is axially disposed within the bushing for sliding vertical movement therein, the lower end of the pin comprising an inverted cone 33, the'side surface 35 of which is set at 90 degrees to the slanting face 29 of the bushing, and a plurality of balls 36, three as shown, upon the platform 16, each ball being in contact with the side of the cone and the slanting face of the bushing, vertical movement of the sliding member 15 being amplified by the balls to produce an increased movement of the pin 37. The gauge is fixed by screws through holes 41 to a bar (not shown) in which slides a vertical probe, the lower end of which enters the hole, the depth of which is to be measured and the upper end of which is in contact with the lower end of the member 15. For gauging the hole the movement of the probe, transmitted as described to the pin 37, causes the top 31 of the pin to move relatively to the top of the fixed bushing 21 which is formed in two levels 22, 22a corresponding to the tolerance limits.
