Abstract

770,637. Colour television tubes. CHROMATIC TELEVISION LABORATORIES, Inc. Nov. 24, 1954, No. 34024/54. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XI] Undulated or crimped rods strips or ribbons interwoven in fine grids structures e.g. colour focusing and deflecting grids in cathode-ray tubes, act as vibration dampers. A spreader bar is first interleaved between the tautened wires of the grid, alternate strands being displaced oppositely and a vitreous rod or glass ribbon inserted along the edge of the spreader bar. The latter is removed leaving the vitreous rod or ribbon under tension and local application of heat softens the vitreous material and the rod or ribbon assumes a zig-zag shape which is retained on cooling. The strands of the grid are stretched between hooks 25, 33 or anchoring bars 23, 31 respectively the latter being separated by an insulating layer. Glass bars 17 space the wires from the screen base plate 15. After the vitreous rod 37 has been interleaved and the spreader bar withdrawn, the rod is softened by close heating from a heating filament 43 in a ceramic holder 41. The heating block may be caused to travel along the wire at a controlled rate by means of pulleys and an electric motor. Three damping rods may be interleaved in an average size grid. The grid and rod spacings may be non-uniform. Specification 770,636 is referred to.
