769,868. Magnetic clutches. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND), Ltd., S. (Eaton Manufacturing Co.). June 16, 1955, No. 17444/55. Class 35. In a powder clutch with a constant gap between two relatively moving magnetic members, one of.these, carries an additional magnetic member movable towards and away from a part of the other member, and the flux path includes. the latter part, the additional member and the constant gap. As shown, the outer rotor 132 carries two additional members 112 and 114 supported by springs 68 and movable towards the sides of the inner rotor 102 which is separated from the outer rotor by the constant gap. If only one additional member is used, the magnetic circuit is completed by a magnetic part forming a permanent part of the inner rotor in the space that would have been occupied by the second additional member. The additional member can make direct contact with the inner rotor. Specifications 671,219 and 677,534 and U.S.A. Specification. 2,580,869 are referred to.
