[Also in Group XXVIII] A connector for use in a well casing string comprises a pair of tubular members telescopically connected for limited relative axial movement, without relative rotative movement, to relieve compression and tension in the string.An inner tubular member 3 is connec- ted to the casing string at the top 3a and on the exterior of its lower end carries splines 7 which cooperate with splines 8 on the interior of the upper end of an outer tubular member 4 which is connected at its lower end 6 to the casing string. In the position shown, Fig. 3, the connector is fully retracted with the inner tube 3' engaging a shoulder 6a connected to the outer tube 4. In the fully extended position the splines '-7 slide up in the splines 8 until the tops of the splines 7 abut shoulders 8a secured to the splines 8 and the ends .of the splines 7 abut a band 7a secured to the splines 7. Sealing rings 13, 17 are positioned between the inner and outer tubes 3, 4. A shear pin may connect the tubes 3, 4 against relative" axial movement until the forces in the string are sufficient to shear the pin.
