769,089. Testing friability. SHEFFIELD CORPORATION. May 20, 1955 [May 21, 1954], No. 14576/55. Class 106 (2). The friability of different portions of e.g. a grinding- wheel is tested by gauging air flow through such portions, the air-being presented to the surface to be tested by means of a gauging-head comprising a body 10, an axial passage 11, an annular resiliently yieldable sealing member 16 having an outwardly facing free surface which yields upon application to the surface to be tested and limit means 18 for engagement with that surface to limit the compression of the sealing member 16, air being admitted to the head at the other end 14. The limit means 18 is provided with radial grooves for the escape of air received in the annular pocket 20.
