Abstract
Organic compounds of the formula ElRx wherein El denotes a non-gaseous element of the 2nd to 5th group of the periodic system other than carbon and silicon such as As, Sb, Sn, Zn, Hg, Cd, Pb, B or P, R denotes alkyl, aryl or aralkyl and X denotes a number corresponding to the valency of the element, are prepared by reacting fluorides or complex fluorides of the elements with organo aluminium compounds, e.g. aluminium trialkyls, trialkyletherates, triaryls, triaralkyls or mixtures thereof, suitably at 10-250 DEG C. and possibly under pressure and in the presence of diluents and/or solvents, e.g. hexane, benzene. Examples specify the use of aluminium triethyl and triethyl etherate. Complex fluorides are defined as those which do not dissociate in water, liquid SO2 or liquid ammonia into the ions of the salts from which they are formed.
