Abstract
A coating composition comprises (1) an organic solvent-soluble cellulose derivative filmforming agent, e.g. nitrocellulose containing 10.5-12.2 per cent of nitrogen, (2) paraffin wax, e.g. of m.pt. 40-65 DEG C., or candelilla wax, e.g. of m.pt. 67-72 DEG C., or a waxy polymer of a long chain n-alkyl ether of vinyl alcohol in which the long chain contains 12-34 carbon atoms, e.g. polymerized n-octadecyl vinyl ether of m.pt. 50 DEG C. and mol. wt. 4000, or a mixture of any of these waxes in a proportion of 0.6-5.0 per cent, (3) a gum or resin blending agent, (4) a plasticiser, and (5) a polysiloxane resin of the type having the formula <FORM:0768571/IV(a)/1> where R and R1 may each be CH3- or -OH, R11 is H, R111 is an alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, alkaryl or alkoxy group, and n is a whole number, and having a mol. wt. of 1,500-26,000, e.g. methyl hydrogen polysiloxane, in a proportion of 0.05-10 per cent. The gum or resin blending agent may be gum dammar, rosin, rosin-modified glyceryl citrate alkyd or ester gum, and the plasticiser may be dicyclohexyl or dibutyl phthalate or tricyclohexyl citrate. The composition may be applied to regenerated cellulose film in solution, e.g. in a mixture of ethyl acetate and toluene. Specification 709,575 is referred to.
